How to Measure Your Fireplace For Gas Logs

Measuring Your Fireplace

It's important to buy the right size log set. Also, because of the Radiant Heat Burner Systems™ high BTU rating, your fireplace chimney must have a minimum flue dimension of at least 8 inches. Improper sizing can interfere with proper drafting of your fireplace. If the logs are too large, the unit will not burn efficiently and the size may hamper the proper operation of the Radiant Heat Burner System™. If you have too small of a log set it will diminish the beauty of your hearth setting. Look below to see the parts of the fireplace you'll need to measure before purchasing your log set - this area of your fireplace is called the "firebox".

Sizing Note: If you install a safety pilot light kit with your gas logs (required on units with propane gas) you must add 12" to the total width of gas logs. Example: Our 18 inch logs will require a minimum width of 30". 24" logs will require a minimum width of 36". The pilot light adds 6" to the width and you must allow an additional 6" of space on the opposite side of the logs for centering in your fireplace. If you have questions call us a 1-877-663-7454.

Gas Requirements
Is a gas line currently installed?

If no, then a gas line or propane line will need to be installed upon installation on the logs. A licensed gas line installer should install your gas line.

If yes, it will need to be at least a 1/2" gas line. If the line is longer than 20 feet long from the main line, you may need a larger diameter line.
